In Custody Population is a count of every inmate in the custody of the Polk County
Sheriff’s Office regardless of where the inmate is physically located at the time
this report is processed. The actual number of inmates in jail that day will have
fluctuated with each booking and release.
The Calendar Year-to-Date Average Daily Population is determined by counting every
inmate in jail exactly once for each day of the year and dividing the sum by the
number of days in the year.
Calendar Year-to-Date Average Length of Stay is calculated by subtracting the inmate’s
date of booking from the inmate’s date of release and is rounded to number of days.
If an inmate has not been released, the date of the report is used as the release
date to determine length of stay. However, inmates booked and released on the same
day have a length of stay of one day.
The number of inmates booked is defined as the admission of a new inmate into the
jail. In some instances inmates can be released and booked more than once in any
day and each occurrence is counted and included in total number of inmates booked.
Federal Inmates are persons held for detention that are charged with or convicted
of violations of federal law or held as material witnesses for the United States
Marshal Service and other federal user agencies (The Federal Government).
Local Inmates are persons held for detention that are charged with or convicted
of violations of state or local law or held as material witnesses for state or local
law enforcement agencies.
