Emergency Repairs
The Division of Development Services provides emergency repairs for eligible low income
families throughout Polk County. Families with incomes equal to or below 150% of poverty
may call Community and Family Services to apply for assistance (286-3385).
If they are income eligible and their property is assessed for less than $80,000, they can
receive a lifetime maximum repair benefit of $80,000, or 10% of the assessed value of their
home, whichever is less.
Eligible families are referred to Development Services for the actual repair work.
Development Services will visit the home and make a determination of the repair need,
secure contractor bids for the work, and ensure the work is satisfactorily completed.
Families may apply for emergency assistance more than once, until the maximum limit has
been reached.
