About The Board

In Polk County, the Board of Supervisors convenes each Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. to consider and act upon official business and approve personnel appointments.

The Board holds work sessions on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. with staff and others to discuss and clarify items for future agendas. Both meetings are held in Room 120 of the Administrative Office Building at 111 Court Avenue.

The budget process is the most important power of the Board. By using the budget process effectively, the Board is able to monitor and correct inefficiencies in all organizational units, including elected departments, quasi-organizations, and administrative departments.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Board of Supervisors promotes and facilitates various cooperative efforts between and among other government entities and jurisdictions. In an effort to achieve their number one priority, balanced growth, the Board supports many road and infrastructure projects with communities within Polk County such as NW 26th Street interchange on I-35 allowing another access point to and from 35/80, reconstruction of NE 56th Street eastern Polk County between Altoona and Pleasant Hill, and the establishment of a Regional Transit Authority are just a few examples of the Board’s support and participation in these efforts.

Most importantly, the Board is available to its constituency on a full-time basis and can respond to issues of importance to citizens. The Board also appoints individuals or serves on a number of Boards and Commissions that affect all aspects of Polk County.

Our Mission Statement
