The Polk County Board of Supervisors is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the Polk County Citizen’s Academy. The Board, in cooperation with Polk County Elected Officials and Department Heads has developed the Academy to provide interested citizens with the opportunity to learn more about their County government in a hands-on, interactive fashion.
You will have the opportunity to tour the new Iowa Events Center and to develop an understanding of the scope and magnitude of County services, ranging from how the Polk County Attorney and Polk County Sheriff work together to provide effective law enforcement to how your property taxes are calculated. You will also develop an understanding of the human services offered including mental health, physical health, youth and elderly services, as well as many others.
The 2008 Citizen’s Academy will begin on Thursday, September 4th. The remaining classes will be held on Tuesday evenings starting Sept. 9th from 5:30-8:30 p.m., for 10 weeks. Class locations vary according to the department(s) that is highlighted on each particular evening. There is no fee associated with the Academy and dinner is provided on each night.
