Public Notice: Metro Park East Landfill-Title V Operating Permit (1/23/2012)
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is proposing to renew the Title V Operating Permit for Metro Park East Landfill. This facility is located at 12181 12th Avenue N.E., Mitchellville, Iowa 50169. IDNR is currently reviewing an application for renewal submitted by Metro Park East Landfill to operate their existing Solid Waste Landfill, (SIC 4953).
The public comment period for the proposed permit will run from January 23, 2012 through February 21, 2012. For more information please visit the Polk County Air Quality Division’s website.
Polk County, Iowa - Air Quality Proposal for a New Near Road Nitrogen Dioxide Monitor (1/13/2012)
This proposal outlines the Iowa DNR’s plan for a new near road nitrogen dioxide (NO2) monitor. This monitor is required to meet new federal monitoring requirements. This site will assist the Iowa DNR in its efforts to monitor the quality of Iowa’s air and to keep the public aware of air quality problems. This plan is required by EPA’s national ambient air monitoring regulations. It contains detailed information about the location and purpose of all existing NO2 monitors in Iowa’s air monitoring network in addition to the proposal for the new monitor located in Polk County, Iowa. The plan and comments will be submitted to EPA after a 30 day review period. The Air Quality Bureau must receive all public comments by 2/13/2012. Polk County Board of Health Rules & Regulations -
DES MOINES - The Polk County Board of Supervisors approved various revisions to Chapter 5-Air Pollution of the Polk County Board of Health Rules & Regulations July 26, 2011 board meeting. The effective date for the update is August 3, 2011. This information will be submitted to IDNR and EPA for their review and approval for inclusion into our State Implementation Plan within the next 30 days. The rulemaking consists of a general rulemaking which incorporates the changes IDNR has made to the Iowa Administrative Code over the past 12 months which include accepting delegation of various Federal regulations which will affect business and industry in Polk County. UPDATED CONSTRUCTION PERMIT APPLICATION -
DES MOINES - The Polk County Air Quality Division construction permit application has been updated. The revisions to this application were necessary to incorporate the Federal Greenhouse Gas Tailoring rule issued final by EPA on December 23, 2010. These revised forms can be found at the "Construction Permits" link located to the right side of this window. All construction permit applications received after July 1, 2011 will be required to submit the current application.
Concurrently the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Air Quality Bureau revised various Title V application forms. The revised forms are

THE 2011 LAWN MOWER EXCHANGE PROGRAM HAS ENDED!

Due to the incredible response shown by the citizens of Polk County for the 2011 Polk County lawn mower exchange program, we have spent our allowable funds to proceed with the program for this year.
In a mere 16 days we have exhausted the funding for the lawn mower exchange program.
For those of you who may have missed out on this year’s opportunity, and are still interested in keeping the air we breathe cleaner, we will have coupons available at our offices for the purchase of a Neuton® cordless, electric mower. These coupons are good toward the purchase of a CE5 and CE6 for a discounted price of $274 and $359 respectively.
