WEEKLY CASE SUMMARY
10/06/2008 John Harlan appeared for arraignment on a Robbery Second. He is accused of assaulting Christopher Foster with the intent to commit a theft. He entered a plea of not guilty.

Prathna Keo pled guilty to theft in the second degree for taking merchandise from his former employer at O’Reilly Auto Parts, located at 1800 Guthrie in Des Moines. Sentencing is set for November 17th, 2008, at 9 a.m.

Originally put on probation for a burglary, Benjamin Hale admitted that he was in violation of that probation by taking off (“absconding”) and not appearing for appointments with the probation officer. His probation was changed so that he is now sentenced to Fort Des Moines Residential Correctional Facility until maximum benefits have been received.

Emmanuel Mwakyusa pled guilty and was sentenced for Assault Causing Bodily Injury. He received 360 days in jail, all suspended but 15 days. Besides restitution and an assaultive behavior class, he was ordered to have no contact with the victim.

Wanda Siemer, by repaying a substantial amount of the monies taken in a fraudulent practice, was allowed to plea to an aggravated misdemeanor. She was placed on probation and required to repay the remaining amount, attend a Life Skills class, and participate in a VORP session.

10/10/2008 Devin Carter was convicted of the crime of Carrying Weapons. He was placed on two (2) years probation and ordered to pay $625 fine. He was also ordered to complete any other programming required by his probation officer.

Mason Benjamin pled guilty to the felony crime of Burglary in the Third Degree and was placed on probation for two (2) years in criminal no. FECR222668. Defendant was also ordered to complete 80 hours of community service.

Mondale Rife pled guilty to the crime of Failure to Comply with the Sex Offender Registry, Second Offense. The defendant was ordered to serve a term of incarceration not to exceed five (5) years in criminal no. FECR221722. Defendant was also found to be in violation of his probation and ordered to prison for a period not to exceed two (2) years in criminal no. AGCR220135.

Joseph Jorden, Jr. was sentenced for the felony crime of Eluding and also for the crime of OWI 1st Offense. The defendant was placed on probation for two (2) years and ordered to remain in jail until space is available at the Fort Des Moines Correctional Facility. The defendant was to complete any programming at the Fort Des Moines Facility.
