Alena Honeick was sentenced for the crime of Manufacturing a Controlled Substance,
a Class D felony, in case number FE231537. Judgment was deferred and she was placed
on probation for five (5) years. This defendant was prosecuted by the Polk County

Louis Foggia was sentenced for the crimes of Manufacturing a Controlled Substance,
a Class D felony, and Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver,
a Class D felony, in case number FE231580. He was sentenced to a maximum indeterminate
term of five (5) years on each count, consecutive to each other, but these sentences
were suspended and he was placed on probation for five (5) years. This defendant
was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
On October 30, 2009, Defendant Robby L. Taylor entered a plea of guilty to the charges
of: Count I: Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, and Count
II: Failure to Possess a Tax Stamp, in violation of Iowa Code Section(s) 124.401(1)(d),
453B.3 and 453B.12, Class D Felonies. On January 19, 2010 Defendant Robby L. Taylor,
was sentenced for a total period not to exceed 10 years for the charges, Count I:
Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, and Count II: Failure
to Possess a Tax Stamp, in violation of Iowa Code Section(s) 124.401(1) (d), 453B.3,
and 453B.12, Class D Felonies. The sentence in this case was suspended, and the
defendant was placed on probation for a period of 5 years to be supervised by the
Fifth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services. Robby L. Taylor was
prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
On August 18, 2009, Defendant Stephan Sheridan entered a plea of guilty to the charge
of: Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, in violation of
Iowa Code Section(s) 124.401(1)(c) (3), a Class C Felony. On January 19, 2010, Defendant
Stephan Sheridan, was sentenced for a period not to exceed 10 years for the charge
Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, in violation of Iowa
Code Section(s) 124.401(1) (c)(3), a Class C Felony. The sentence in this case was
suspended, and the defendant was placed on probation for a period of 5 years to
be supervised by the Fifth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services.
Stephan Sheridan was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang
Bureau.
Joel Lusk received a two year suspended sentence and two years probation after pleading
guilty to the crime of Child Endangerment. As a condition of his probation, Lusk
was also assessed a fine of $2,000, must complete any programming assigned by his
probation officer and, comply with a No Contact Order entered by the Court.

James Anthony Edwards pled guilty to Assault Causing Bodily Injury in FE231453 as
well as two charges of Driving While Barred in AG233079 and 232880. The court sentenced
him to a period of incarceration not to exceed one year on the assault, and two
years each on the Driving offenses. Pursuant to plea agreement, the assault ran
concurrent to the driving and Edwards was sentenced to incarceration not to exceed
a total of four years.
Jeffrey Nicholas Ash was sentenced to Burglary 3rd Degree in FE232465. The Court
dismissed SR230553, a criminal mischief charge pursuant to plea agreement, which
included the agreement that Ash would make restitution for the damages he caused.
The court granted Ash a Deferred Judgment on the Burglary charge, placing on probation
with conditions including that Ash participate in some evaluations to determine
if any counseling or treatment is necessary, Since Ash is a full time student, the
Court ordered him to complete 40 hours of community service work.
Melvin Alonzo Adams stipulated he violated the terms and conditions of his probation
in FE210410 by being caught in the act of committing a new criminal offense and
drinking alcohol while under supervision. He will remain in custody pending disposition
which is set for February 11, 2010 at 9:30 a.m.
Richard Songer was sentenced to incarceration not to exceed five years in FE232115
on a charge of Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury. The Court suspended the sentence
and granted him probation , requiring that Songer complete 100 hours of community
service, obtain his GED and comply with any other programming deemed appropriate
by the Department of Corrections.
William Frederick CeCe appeared in FE231889 for sentencing on the charge of Theft
2nd Degree, to which he pled guilty on December 16, 2009. The State recommended
a suspended sentence pursuant to a plea agreement reached. The Court listened to
a Victim Impact Statement by the victim in this case and reviewed CeCe's criminal
history. The Court sentenced CeCe to a term of incarceration not to exceed five
(5) years but indicated a willingness to reconsider his sentence after 90 days if
CeCe had not disciplinary issues while in prison.
Kelly Wawers appeared for disposition of a probation violation in FE208944 and FE216163.
She appeared on December 29, 2009 and stipulated she had violated the terms and
conditions of her probation. The Court found the violations were sufficient to warrant
revocation of her probation and sentenced her to ten years on a charge of Possession
with Intent in FE216163 and five years on a charge of Fraudulent Practices in FE208944,
as originally sentenced. The Court ran these sentences consecutive to each other
for a total period of incarceration not to exceed 15 years. Wawers is not eligible
for parole before serving 1/3 of her sentence in FE216163.
Meleah Kae Lawrence was sentenced in FE228114 for the charge of Theft 2nd Degree.
Lawrence previously appeared before the Court and entered a plea of guilty. The
Court determined Lawrence was a good candidate for a Deferred Judgment and granted
same. Lawrence is on probation for two years and must participate in a first time
offender class, complete her GED, obtain and maintain full time employment and comply
with any other programming deemed appropriate by the Department of Corrections.
Nelson Rieman plead guilty to Child Endangerment Causing Bodily Injury and was sentenced
to a term not to exceed five years in prison.

Artemio Aguilar a/k/a Indio was sentenced to prison in Polk County Criminal Number
FECR229536 for a period not to exceed 10 years for the crime of Intimidation with
a Dangerous Weapon and for a period not to exceed 5 years for the crime of Criminal
Gang Participation. This case stemmed from a gang-related drive by shooting which
occurred on the southeast side of Des Moines. The defendant was prosecuted by the
Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
Jeffrey Edward Hudson, SRCR232585, pled guilty to Possession of a Controlled Substance-marijuana,
third offense, as alleged in Count III of the Trial Information, in violation of
Iowa Code Section 124.401(5), a Class D Felony without the habitual offender enhancement.
The Defendant requested immediate sentencing. The Court sentenced him to prison
for 5 years and ordered that is run consecutive to his parole in FECR209824. This
case was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
Jeffery Ash pled guilty to Burglary in the Third Degree in Polk County Criminal
Case number FECR232465. The Court deferred judgment and placed the defendant on
probation for two years. As a condition of probation, the defendant will have to
pay a civil penalty and victim restitution, complete community service, and participate
in all recommended substance abuse and mental health treatment.
On January 22, 2010, Garrett Colby Fowler plead guilty to Robbery in the Second
Degree, Going Armed with Intent, Assault by Use or Display of a Dangerous Weapon
and Assault Causing Bodily Injury. The charges arose on August 29, 2009, when the
defendant, Garrett Colby Fowler, asked a woman for a ride in the early morning hours
near the Quik Trip located at 1421 Ingersoll in downtown Des Moines. The woman agreed
to give the defendant a ride and took him several blocks to the area near 21st Street
and Atkins Street. At that point the defendant demanded money from the woman, but
she refused to comply. The defendant struck the woman in the face and put a knife
to her throat. The defendant grabbed money from the woman, $10.00, ripping her shorts
in the process. The woman reported the incident to the police who caught the defendant
approximately two hours later. When the defendant was caught, he was still in possession
of a blue backpack described by the victim and was still in possession of the knife
he used in the assault. Following his plea of guilty, the defendant was sentenced
to ten years for Robbery in the Second Degree, five years for Going Armed with Intent,
two years for Assault by Use or Display of a Dangerous Weapon and one year for Assault
Causing Bodily Injury. The sentences were run consecutively, meaning back-to-back,
for a total of 18 years. The defendant will be required to serve a minimum of seven
years before he will be eligible for parole.
On September 11, 2009, Defendant Dale Coleman entered a plea of guilty to the charges
of: Count I: Possession of a Controlled Substance Third Offense, in violation of
Iowa Code Section(s) 124.401(5), a Class D Felony. On January 22, 2010 Defendant
Dale Coleman, was sentenced for a total period not to exceed 5 years for the charges
of:, Count I: Possession of a Controlled Substance Third Offense, in violation of
Iowa Code Section(s) 124.401(5), a Class D Felony. The sentence in this case was
suspended, and the defendant was placed on probation for a period of 5 years to
be supervised by the Fifth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services.
Dale Coleman was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
The probation for Traci Lynn Rice was revoked on the charges of Theft in the First
Degree and Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs. She immediately received a
consecutive ten year and three year prison sentence. Court records show that Rice
owes in excess of $50,000 in restitution.
Katherine Santiago appeared in Polk County District Court in criminal number FE
232703. Santiago pleaded guilty to Theft in the Fifth Degree and Obstructing Prosecution.
Santiago was sentenced to 30 days in jail on the theft charge and given credit for
time served as she has been incarcerated since October 8, 2009. For Obstructing
Prosecution, Santiago was sentenced to up to two years in prison. The prison sentence
was suspended and she was placed on probation for two years. Santiago was prosecuted
by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
Tarayia Brooks appeared in Polk County District Court in criminal number FE 232704.
Brooks pleaded guilty to Theft in the Fifth Degree and Obstructing Prosecution.
Brooks was sentenced to 30 days in jail on the theft charge and given credit for
time served as she has been incarcerated since October 8, 2009. For Obstructing
Prosecution, Brooks was sentenced to up to two years in prison. The prison sentence
was suspended and she was placed on probation for two years. Brooks was prosecuted
by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
Yusuf John Jones appeared in Polk County District Court in criminal number FE 232581.
Jones pleaded guilty to Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver
(“crack” cocaine); Possession of a Firearm as a Convicted Felon and Harassment in
the First Degree. Jones will be sentence March 9, 2010 in Polk County District Court.
Jones is being prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
