Robert J. Miller was sentenced for the crime of Forgery, in violation of Iowa Code
Section 715A.1 and 715A.2(2)(a)(3), a Class D Felony. Miller received a suspended
sentence and was placed on probation for 2 years. As a condition of probation the
defendant shall remain in custody until there is a bed available at the Fort Des
Moines Residential Facility. Additionally, the defendant must pay full restitution
and complete 100 hours of community service.
Cory Hall stipulated to the violations as reported and his probation was revoked
and his original sentence was imposed. The defendant was incarcerated for an indeterminate
term of incarceration not to exceed 10 years for the crime of Theft in the 1st degree,
a Class C Felony. The Court indicated it would potentially reconsider the defendant
after a period of 90 days if the Hall did not have any major violations while at
the institution. The State did not commit to agreeing to the reconsideration.
Cari Jones pled guilty to Criminal Mischief in the Fifth Degree in Polk County Criminal
case number CR232418. The defendant was ordered to pay restitution and a fine.
Cody Anderson appeared for sentencing on a charge of Burglary in the Third Degree
in Polk County Criminal Case number FECR233605. The Court deferred judgment and
placed the defendant on probation for two years.
Keith McElwee pled guilty to Theft in the Second Degree, Possession of an Offensive
Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Driving While Revoked in Polk
County Criminal Case numbers FECR233926, SRCR234085 and NTA302490. A pre-sentence
investigation was ordered and sentencing was scheduled for May 12, 2010.
Brad Golwitzer was sentenced after previously pleading guilty to Assault with the
Intent to Cause Serious Injury in Polk County case number FECR230418. The defendant
was sentenced to an indeterminate term of prison not to exceed two years.

On February 2nd, 2010, the jury found Patrick J. Coleman, FECR232219, guilty of
possession of a controlled substance-marijuana, third offense, as alleged in Count
I of the Trial Information, in violation of Iowa Code Section 124.401(5), a class
D felony and Failure to possess a tax stamp, as alleged in Count II of the Trial
Information, in violation of Iowa Code Sections 453B.3 and 453B.12, a class D Felony.
On March 23rd, 2010, the case came before the Court for sentencing. The State argued
for a 5 year prison sentence on each count of the Trial Information to run consecutive
to each other for a total period of incarceration not to exceed 10 years. The Defense
argued for 5 year suspended sentence and probation on each count. The Court sentenced
the Defendant to prison for 5 years on each count, but ran them concurrent to each
other for a total period of incarceration not to exceed 5 years. This case was prosecuted
by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
Luis Alvarado a/k/a "Wolfie" was sentenced to prison in Polk County Criminal Number
FECR229394 for a period not to exceed 25 years for the crime of Attempt to Commit
Murder; for a period not to exceed 10 years for the crime of Willful Injury Causing
Serious Injury with a Dangerous Weapon; for a period not to exceed 10 years for
the crime of Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury; and for a period not to exceed
5 years for the crime of Willful Injury Causing Bodily Injury. The Court ordered
the sentences to be served consecutively for an effective term of incarceration
not to exceed 50 years. The defendant will have to serve a mandatory 70% of the
sentence imposed on the offense of Attempt to Commit and a mandatory 5 years of
the sentence imposed on the offense of Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury with
a Dangerous Weapon prior to being eligible for parole. The convictions stemmed from
a stabbing on the northwest side of Des Moines which resulted in the death of Eduardo
Marquez. The defendant was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug
and Gang Bureau.
Jenny Vanloon was sentenced to prison in Polk County Criminal Number FECR234363
for a period not to exceed 5 years for the crime of Possession of Ephedrine or Pseudoephedrine
with Intent it be Used to Manufacture a Controlled Substance. The defendant was
likewise sentenced to prison in Polk County Criminal Number FECR229929 for a period
not to exceed 5 years for the crime of Theft in Second Degree. The Court revoked
the probation previously granted to the defendant in Criminal Number FECR229929.
The Court ordered the sentences to be served consecutively for an effective term
of incarceration not to exceed 10 years. The defendant was prosecuted by the Polk
County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
The Court entered an order forfeiting to the State of Iowa $39,337.02 in United
States currency belonging to Sergio Marrero-Ramirez based on the property’s connection
to drug trafficking. The forfeiture proceeding was instituted by the Polk County
Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
Edward Wessel appeared for a probation revocation hearing. The court revoked his
probation and sentenced him to ten years in prison for Forgery, Driving While Barred,
Domestic Abuse Assault Causing Bodily Injury and Assault With a Weapon.
Damon Lee McDonald appeared for sentencing after pleading guilty to Theft in the
Second Degree. He was sentenced to five years in prison.

Jennifer Ruge pled guilty in Polk County Criminal Number FECR234362 to the crime
of Conspiracy to Manufacture a Controlled Substance. Sentencing was set for a later
date. The defendant is being prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug
and Gang Bureau.
Shelli Blanchard FECR232411 was sentenced to prison, for a term not to exceed 5
years, for committing Theft in the 2nd Degree.
Jamel Burton FECR228280 stipulated to violating his probation and was sentenced
to prison, for a term not to exceed 5 years, for committing Willful Injury Causing
Bodily Injury.
Joseph Grubb appeared on a probation violation in Polk County criminal case number
FECR215150. The defendant stipulated that he did violate terms and conditions of
probation. The Court revoked his probation and sentenced the defendant to a five
year prison term.
Douglas Williams pled guilty to Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree in Polk County
criminal case number FECR234365. After paying restitution, the defendant was sentenced
to pay a fine of $625.
Heather Hascall pled guilty to Perjury and Falsifying an Iowa Identification in
Polk County criminal case number FECR234149. Sentencing was scheduled for April
30, 2010.
On February 10, 2010, Defendant Jose L. Hernandez, entered a plea of guilty to the
charge of: Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver, in violation
of Iowa Code Section(s) 124.401(1)(d), a Class D Felony. On March 24, 2010, Defendant
Jose L. Hernandez, was sentenced to a period of incarceration not to exceed 5 years
for the charge of: Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver,
in violation of Iowa Code Section (s) 124.401(1)(d). The defendant was committed
to the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections. Jose L. Hernandez
was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.

Richard Woolery stipulated that he had violated the conditions of his probation
in case number FE201474. He was previously granted probation for the crimes of Possession
of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver, cocaine base “crack”, a Class
C felony, and Failure to Possess a Tax Stamp, a Class D felony. He was sentenced
to a maximum indeterminate term of ten (10) years and five (5) years, consecutive,
in prison and must serve a minimum term of one-third of the ten (10) year sentence
before becoming eligible for parole. This defendant was prosecuted by the Polk County
Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
Michelle Hirsch, FECR233483, was sentenced on the charge of Theft in the First Degree.
This defendant plead guilty on February 4, 2010, and was granted a deferred judgment.
The defendant was placed on five years of probation, ordered to make restitution,
complete 100 hours of community service, complete a financial class through Des
Moines Public Schools.
Belma Bejtovic, FECR218590 and FECR233208, was sentenced to Forgery as an aggravated
misdemeanor after pleading guilty to that charge on February 11, 2010. Probation
revocation hearing was also held in FECR218590 for which Ms. Bejtovic was on probation
for Theft in the First Degree. The defendant was sentenced to two years in prison
on the Forgery charge, her probation was revoked, and she was sentenced to ten years
in prison and those charges were to run consecutive for a total of 12 years in prison.
On November 13, 2009, Defendant Jon Erik Northway, entered a plea of guilty to the
charge of: Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver, in violation
of Iowa Code Section(s) 124.401(1)(c)(6), a Class C Felony. On March 25, 2010, Defendant
Jon Erik Northway was sentenced to a period of incarceration not to exceed 10 years
for the charge of: Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver,
in violation of Iowa Code Section (s) 124.401(1)(c)(3). This sentence was suspended
and the defendant was placed on probation for a period of 5 years. The defendant
shall be supervised by the Fifth Judicial District Department of Correctional Services.

Gang Bureau.
On March 23, 2010, Defendant Billie L. Hayes, entered a plea of guilty to the charge
of: Possession of a Controlled Substance Third Offense, in violation of Iowa Code
Section(s) 124.401(5), a Class D Felony. On March 23, 2010, Defendant Billie L.
Hayes, was sentenced to a period of incarceration not to exceed 5 years for the
charge of: Possession of a Controlled Substance Third Offense, in violation of Iowa
Code Section (s) 124.401(5). This sentence shall run consecutive to the sentence
in FECR190226, for a total period of incarceration not to exceed 30 years. The defendant
was committed to the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections.
Billie L. Hayes was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang
Bureau.
