James Collier was arraigned on drug charges. Pretrial conference was set for June 23, 2011. Trial was scheduled for July 20, 2011.
Adam Darling was arraigned on drug charges. Pretrial conference was set for June 23, 2011. Trial was scheduled for July 20, 2011.
Jacob Larson was arraigned on felony theft charges. Pretrial conference was set for June 23, 2011. Trial was scheduled for July 20, 2011.
Jason Jeffrey Thomas was arraigned on charges of Eluding, Assault on a Police Officer, drunk driving and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Pretrial conference was set for June 23, 2011. Trial was scheduled for July 20, 2011.
Jamie Lee Ferriss was sentenced on charges of Forgery and Unlawful use of a Credit Card – he was granted a probation.
Dillon White appeared for sentencing on charges of Theft in the Second Degree, Eluding and Carrying Weapons. Sentencing was continue to June 3, 2011.
Joseph Andrew Riesberg and Michael McConnell, co-defendants, pled guilty to Burglary in the 2nd Degree, as a lesser included offense, on May 24, 2011. They admitted they pushed their way, uninvited, into an apartment on February 26, 2011 , with the intent to assault another and while people were present. They had words earlier with the resident of the apartment and wanted to confront him. When he opened the door, they pushed their way in and then assaulted the occupants. Joshua Pirtle was punched in the face and suffered a broken nose. McConnell is 19 years old. He faces 10 years in prison. Riesberg was 16 when the offense occurred. Because he was originally charged with Burglary in the 1st Degree-a Forcible Felony, the charge was directly filed in adult court and he faces the adult consequences of 10 years in prison as well. Sentencing is set for July 30, 2011.

On May 25th 2011, the defendant Ralph Wenzel, Jr., FECR243960, pled guilty to Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver-marijuana, as alleged in Count II of the Trial Information, in violation of Iowa Code Section 124.401(1)(d), a Class D Felony. The Defendant waived time and notice and requested immediate sentencing. The Court sentenced him to prison for five years, but suspended the sentence and placed him on probation for five years. This case was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Drug and Gang Bureau.
On May 25, 2011, Tyrone Felton stipulated to Violating a No Contact Order. The Court ordered that he serve 60 days in the Polk County Jail. The Court further modified the No Contact Order to prohibit the defendant from being within a two block radius of Biomat USA, Quiktrip on 6th Avenue and the Bethel Mission.
Merrill Frederick Hankins, III pled guilty to Theft 1st Degree, Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, Theft 2nd Degree and Burglary 3rd Degree in FE244389. Hankins and two others broke into a business, Kelderman Lime and damaged property, breaking through dry wall to remove copper piping on February 21, 2011. They caused nearly $100,000 in damage. They stole about $5,000 in piping to, according to Hankins, sell for money for drugs. February 22, 2011, Hankins returned with another associate and damaged the property again, and stole 2 motors with a value in excess of $10,000. Hankins faces up to thirty (30) years in prison. The plea agreement called for him to remain in jail pending space at IRTC, Mt Pleasant where he will undergo substance abuse treatment. The Court can consider he participation in the program when he is sentenced. Hankins agreed to make restitution on two related but dismissed charges. He will be sentenced August 10, 2011.

On May 26, 2011, Shari Sloan plead guilty to the crime of Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver, a Class C felony, in case number FE243882. She will be sentenced on July 14, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in courtroom 207. She faces a maximum indeterminate term of ten (10) years in prison, and must serve a mandatory minimum term of one-third of this sentence prior to becoming eligible for parole, but this sentence may be suspended and she may be placed on probation. This defendant was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
On May 26, 2011, Nicholas Ceolla admitted that he had violated the conditions of his probation for the crime of Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver, a Class C felony, in case number FE235113. His deferred judgment was revoked and a maximum indeterminate term of ten (10) years in prison was imposed. This sentence was suspended and he was continued on probation with additional conditions. This defendant was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.

A pretrial conference was set for June 30, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. in Room 207 and trial was set for July 25, 2011.

Christopher Meimann – SRCR245810 – This defendant was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Third or Subsequent Offense, a Class D Felony and entered a plea of not guilty. A pretrial conference was set for June 30, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. in Room 207 and trial was set for July 25, 2011.
State of Iowa v. Emily Gleason Olson – FECR206849; OM71145 – This defendant stipulated to being in violation of the terms and conditions of her probation by being out of place of assignment, consuming alcohol, and being arrested on new charges. The defendant’s probation was revoked and the original sentence was imposed. The defendant was ordered to serve a ten year prison sentence and ordered to be taken into the custody of the Director of the Iowa Department of Corrections immediately.
State of Iowa v. Maria Gomez – FECR243182 – This defendant was sentenced after previously pleading guilty to one count of Forgery, a Class D Felony. The defendant acknowledged during the plea that she cashed a check that was not made payable to her and did so with the intent to defraud. The defendant received a deferred judgment and was placed on two years of probation to be supervised by the Department of Corrections. She was ordered to make full restitution and comply with any other terms and conditions as set forth by the Department of Corrections.
On May 26, 2011, Aaron Fredricksen was sentenced to prison in Polk County Criminal Number FECR227069 for a period not to exceed 10 years for the crime of Theft in the 1st Degree and for a period not to exceed 5 years for the crime of Willful Injury. The Court revoked the probation previously granted to the defendant. The defendant was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney’s Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
On May 26, 2011, Douglas Kurtz was sentenced to prison in Polk County Criminal Number FECR245398 for a period not to exceed 20 years for the crime of Manufacturing a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) as a Second or Subsequent Offender and for a period not to exceed 5 years for the crime of Possession of a Lithium with Intent it be Used to Manufacture a Controlled Substance.
