On May 31, 2011, James Beebe appeared in Polk County District Court in criminal number FE 243729. On June 1, 2011, Gerald Johnson was sentenced to prison in Polk County Criminal Number FECR241847 for a period not to exceed 10 years for the crime of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Cocaine Base "Crack") and for a period of 180 days for the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana). The defendant had previously been found guilty of the above offenses at the conclusion of a jury trial. The defendant’s probation was also revoked in Polk County Criminal Number AGCR238031 and he was sentenced to a term of one year for the crime of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon. On June 2, 2011, Roger Juarez pled guilty and was sentenced for the crime of Delivery of a Controlled Substance, methamphetamine, a Class B felony, in case number FE244860. He was sentenced to a maximum indeterminate term of twenty-five (25) years in prison and must serve a mandatory one-third term before becoming eligible for parole. State of Iowa v. Rodney Jarrod Johnson FECR242504 On May 13, 2011, the defendants in the above-captioned cases, Montrell Deondre Williams and Rodney Jarrod Johnson appeared in Polk County District Court for sentencing. They had previously plead guilty to Theft in the First Degree, Count I and Assault Causing Bodily Injury, Count II. The case arose on December 1, 2010, when the defendants ordered a cab to pick them up at the Hy-Vee Store on Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway. They rode in the cab to their destination and then took the cab driver’s purse when they left the cab. To do so, one of the two boys held the cab driver from behind, while the other grabbed the purse. At sentencing, both defendants received ten years in prison on the Theft in the First Degree charge and one year in prison on the Assault Causing Bodily Injury charge. The sentences were run consecutively for a total of 11 years.
State of Iowa v. Tonja Talbert – FECR244090 – This defendant plead guilty on April 28, 2011, to Forgery, a Class D felony and admitted cashing a counterfeit payroll check with the intent to defraud the victim. Today at sentencing the defendant received a five year prison sentence and was ordered into the custody of the Director of the Department of Corrections to be taken to Oakdale. In making the determination that the defendant deserved a prison sentence, the court indicated that the defendant had received four previous probations all of which have been revoked and was unlikely to successfully complete another period of probation.
State of Iowa v. Anthony Andrew Jamez – FECR243294 – This defendant plead guilty to Theft in the Third Degree, a lesser included offense of the trial information and admitted taking a Dell computer from Wal-Mart in November of 2010. The defendant received a 45 day jail sentence and was given credit with 45 days he had already served in the Polk County Jail.
State of Iowa v. Christopher Love Brown – FECR235718 – This defendant plead guilty to Assault With Intent to Inflict Serious Injury, an Aggravated Misdemeanor and lesser included of the charge in the trial information. The defendant admitted to assaulting his sister by hitting her in the face with the intent to cause serious injury. The defendant received a 365 day jail sentence and was given credit for 365 days already served in the Polk County Jail.
State of Iowa v. Carolyn Hinline – FECR243169 – On April 19, 2011, this defendant entered a guilty plea to Theft in the Second Degree for money taken from her employer. At the sentencing today, the defendant received a deferred judgment and was placed on a period of probation of five years. The defendant was ordered to pay a $750 civil penalty, comply with all terms and conditions of the probation, and make restitution in the amount of $1,752.53.

On June 3, 2011, defendant Deandre Brown, FECR237383, appeared in court and stipulated that he violated the terms and conditions of his probation. The court added a term of condition in that the defendant shall enter the Fort Des Moines Residential Facility until maximum benefits have been achieved. The defendant was to remain in custody until space was available.
On June 3, 2011, defendant Robin Mickens appeared in court for sentencing. Mr. Mickens was sentenced for the crime of Count I - Child Endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor; Count II - OWI, serious misdemeanor; and Count III - Interference With Official Acts Causing Injury, an aggravated misdemeanor. The defendant was sentenced to a period of incarceration not to exceed two years on Counts I and III and one year on Count II. The sentences were suspended and the defendant was placed on probation for 24 months. Defendant was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service, obtain a substance abuse evaluation, and complete the Drinking Drivers course.
On June 3, 2011, defendant Brooke Squires appeared in court for a probation revocation hearing. The defendant’s probation was revoked and she was sentenced to prison under the terms of the original prison sentence set forth in the sentencing order filed on April 4, 2011.

Nyawarga Yiel and Nyakar Chawech pled guilty to Burglary 3rd Degree and Assault Causing Injury in FE241733 and FE241734. The defendant’s forced their way into an apartment uninvited and got into an altercation. They assaulted a resident although the injuries were minor. They will be out of custody pending their sentence which is scheduled July 11.
