Calvin Clarence Nelson convicted of Murder
Calvin Clarence Nelson, Jr. AKA “C Lo” was convicted upon a jury trial of Murder in the First Degree in case number FE212093. Nelson shot and killed Michael Collins on June 27, 2007 in the area of 7th and Franklin in Des Moines. Collins had approached Nelson on the corner of 7th and Franklin in an attempt to purchase “crack” cocaine and, suspecting that Collins was a police officer, Nelson shot Collins twice in the head from a range of less than two feet, killing him. Nelson will be sentenced in this case on August 18, 2008 at 8:30 a.m. before the Honorable Don C. Nickerson. This Defendant was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorneys Office.
