Conservation Laborer I (Maintenance)
$10.41/hour. Work hours are weekends only, including holiday weekends May-Sept 2014, work hours 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.
Conservation is looking to hire one seasonal worker to work weekends doing custodial maintenance in Jester Park. Position starts Memorial weekend and goes through Labor day weekend in September. Main duties include; cleaning of restroom/shower facilities, shelters, offices, shop areas, rental facilities, campground fire-rings, camp area sites; picks up litter and hauls waste. Assists with repair, light construction, painting, camp-site landscaping, and other maintenance projects. Replenish custodial cleaning supplies, restroom supplies, and other stocked items in various supply areas.
Must have the ability to maintain a valid drivers license and a good driving record.
Must pass County’s pre-employment physical.

Under general supervision, provides instruction on safe riding practices and techniques, horsemanship, and the proper care and treatment of horses. Schedules use, maintains records related to individual riding and riding program activities; assists in the care of horses, cleaning of stalls, and removal of manure. Reports to the Equestrian Center Manager or Barn Supervisor as directed.
Stable Laborer - $9.25 per hour

In need of 1-2 laborers who are experienced in driving horse-drawn wagons or sleighs. This person would also be working in a general Stable Laborer capacity as needed (see below). Hours would be part-time, 23.5 hrs maximum per week. Rides are weekends and also weekdays by appointment from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Special events would also require weekend drivers.
The Stable Laborers are under immediate supervision of the Barn Supervisor, performs activities related to the care/boarding of horses and the care/maintenance of stable facilities, and surrounding grounds. Responsible for the: care of horses, cleaning of stalls, removal of manure, and minor equipment maintenance.
The Equestrian Center operates on a 7 days per week schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays. These positions involve manual labor and do not receive benefits.
These positions are open until filled. We are hiring multiple people for each position.
Spend the summer in the park by being one of Polk County Conservation’s campground aides. Aides are needed every summer at Jester, Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt, Easter Lake, Yellow Banks and Thomas Mitchell parks. This is not a paid position.
Campground aide position requirements:
- stay overnight in the park
- provide their own camper with proof of insurance
- full hook-ups provided
- firewood provided
- cleaning one of the shower houses located within the campgrounds
- sell bundles of firewood to campers; receiving a percentage of the sales
- pass background checks
