Community Outreach Technician- Seasonal (click here for a full job description)

The Polk County Conservation Board is seeking an outgoing, people person who is savy with social media and has strong communication skills. Hours can be flexible, but some nights and weekends will be required. Conservation knowledge is beneficial.

Required: The ability to obtain/maintain a valid drivers license issued by the State of Iowa.

Equestrian Center Manager (click here for a full job description)

Jester Park Equestrian Center

Polk County Conservation Board 

Salary Range: $49,894-$65,559 and excellent benefit package.

The Polk County Conservation Board is seeking an energetic, highly motivated proven leader to manage the day to day activities and programs of the Equestrian Center including the stable, arenas, buildings and surrounding grounds and a variety of programs.

The Equestrian Center operates on a seven day per week schedule. The Manager supervises two full time and two part time staff as well a fluctuating number of seasonal and temporary employees and develops and oversees a budget of $450,000.

The Manager is responsible for identifying new and expanding existing programming opportunities, planning and implementing a marketing/promotional, outreach strategy designed to promote equestrian services/programs and increase revenues, provides administrative oversight for  a variety of equestrian programs—see http://www.jesterparkec.com/ for more information and works closely with stable and program staff to ensure the proper and efficient scheduling of staff, effective and efficient program operation and that accurate and timely financial, equipment, supplies and related recordkeeping is maintained.

The ideal candidate will possess both a college degree in business administration, marketing, animal science or a related field and at least two years experience in the equine industry or five years successful experience managing a private business.

Required: The ability to obtain/maintain a valid drivers license issued by the State of Iowa.

Barn Supervisor (click here for full job description)

Jester Park Equestrian Center

Polk County Conservation Board

Salary Range: $43,424-$56,958 and excellent benefit package.

The Polk County Conservation Board is seeking an energetic, highly motivated proven leader to supervise the daily activities of the stable, arena, buildings and surrounding grounds.

This is a working supervisor position that participates in stable duties as required. This position requires physically demanding manual labor in addition to supervisory responsibilities. 

The Supervisor plans, schedules and monitors the work of part time and seasonal/temporary staff engaged in the care/maintenance of horses, stables, indoor/outdoor arenas and surrounding buildings and grounds. The Supervisor also monitors the care and health of the horses; including treating horses under the direction of a veterinarian; ensures all facilities and equipment are in safe working order; requisitions supplies, materials and equipment; fixes equipment as needed; feeds, waters and exercises horses; and interacts with the public, horse owners, and suppliers in a variety of different settings.

This position works closely with the Equestrian Center Manager to ensure the proper and efficient scheduling of staff; effective and efficient program operation; and that accurate and timely financial, equipment, supplies and related recordkeeping is maintained.

The ideal candidate will possess both a college degree in animal science or a related field and at least two years experience in the care/boarding of horses.

Required: The ability to obtain/maintain a valid drivers license and to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License issued by the State of Iowa.

Campground Aides

Spend the summer in the park by being one of Polk County Conservation’s campground aides during the 2013 camping season!  Aides are needed every summer at Jester, Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt, Easter Lake, Yellow Banks and Thomas Mitchell parks. This is not a paid position.

Campground aide position requirements:

  • stay overnight in the park
  • provide their own camper with proof of insurance
  • full hook-ups provided
  • firewood provided
  • cleaning one of the shower houses located within the campgrounds
  • sell bundles of firewood to campers; receiving a percentage of the sales
  • pass background checks
