Yellow Banks Park Shelters

  • Dumpsters are located at shop, Shelter #1, ball field parking
  • Garbage cans available at Shelter #3
  • Large playground set between all four shelters
  • Two ball fields available on first-come, first-serve basis AFTER JULY
  • Shelters #1, #2, and #3 rent for $45; Shelter #4 rents for $50
  • $100 deposit is required when having keg beer
  • Electricity found at Shelter #4 only; water not available at the shelters
  • Can rent shelters from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
  • Reservations for shelters can be made on-line at www.mycountyparks.com

Shelter #1

  • Two 36" grills
  • 12 tables
  • Close to the two ball fields
  • Horseshoe pit (bring own horseshoes)
  • Open area suitable for volleyball and softball
  • Dumpster in parking area
  • 60 yards to pit latrine
  • Parking available for 20 vehicles

Shelter #2

  • Two 36" grills
  • 12 tables
  • Overlooks Des Moines River Valley
  • Approx. 400 yards to playground and two ball fields
  • Horseshoe pit (bring own horseshoes)
  • Largest open area of all shelters
  • Accessible vault toilet near parking area
  • Parking available for 20 vehicles

Shelter #3

  • Two 36" grills
  • 12 tables
  • Most scenic view of City of Des Moines and Des Moines River Valley
  • Approx. 500 yards to playground and two ball fields
  • Horseshoe pit (bring own horseshoes)
  • Smallest open area (not suitable for volleyball or softball)
  • Parking limited to 25 cars
  • Trail to bluff overlook close to shelter
  • Handicapped accessible vault toilet by parking lot

Shelter #4

  • Occupancy: 75 people
  • Two 36" grills and one 18" grill
  • Lighted shelter with two electrical outlets
  • Six tables
  • Usable on a first-come, first-serve basis or may be rented by the public after the second weekend in July
  • Located in between two ball diamonds
  • 200 yards to the playground
  • Large parking lot
  • Vault toilet by parking lot
  • Dumpster in parking area
