Fort Des Moines Park Master Plan

Friday, January 13, 2012

On January 11th, 2012, the Fort Des Moines Park Master Plan was unveiled by the Polk County Conservation Board following a six-month public planning process. The plan provides a long-range vision (10-20 years) for future development and programming of Fort Des Moines Park. Staff is eager to begin executing various aspects of the plan. Vegetation has been cleared from the fence that surrounds the park. This clearing has occurred so the fence can be removed easier by staff and volunteers. Removal of the fence ranked as a high priority in the master plan. The park will appear more welcoming to visitors, exterior and interior park views will be enhanced, and trail access from SE 5th Street, local schools, and adjacent partners will be established. Our goal is to have the fence removed by Spring of 2012.

Polk County Conservation would like to thank the community members that participated in the master plan process. There is a lot of work to be done. If you or your group would like to volunteer your time to assist with any park improvements, please contact Pat Spain at 515-323-5280 or pspain@polkcountyiowa.gov.
