Carney Marsh offers prime wildlife habitat in one of the most rapidly developing areas of Polk County.
This 40-acre wildlife area in southern Ankeny is located along NE 70th Avenue between Highway 69 and Interstate 35.
Birding is a popular activity among marsh visitors. Seasonal birds frequent the marsh, including herons, yellow-headed and red-winged blackbirds, yellow-throated warblers, and various waterfowl.
The Gay Lea Wilson Trail now passes along the east side of Carney Marsh.
