Information Technology

Strategic Plan

The current strategic plan for the Polk County Information Technology Division encompasses several major initiatives:

  • Development of E-Business applications

Web technology is the fastest growing component in the IT world. Polk County has numerous web development projects underway - all of which are aimed at improving both internal operations and citizen access to information and services.

  • Customer Service feedback and improvement

The IT staff has provided a web-based survey for internal departments and offices to fill out at the completion of each IT request or problem report. The survey responses are stored in a database, and periodically evaluated to ensure appropriate response, timely resolution to problems, and overall customer satisfaction.

  • Internal Documentation

Another initiative involves updates to (or creation of) internal IT Documentation - including policies, process documentation, and standard operating procedures.

  • Utilization of Project Management best practices

A number of IT staff members have received Project Management training. Formal Project management methodologies are being implemented where applicable throughout the IT department.

  • Inventory Controls

IT is evaluating the methods currently in use for tracking inventory and assets.

  • Deployment of Document Management systems

IT staff are actively engaged in the implementation of Document Management (imaging) systems throughout Polk County. These systems provide many benefits - including workflow improvements, disaster recovery, and decreased physical storage. Additional information on Document Management initiatives.
