NW Madrid Drive
This project includes the reconstruction/widening of NW Madrid Drive/West
Broadway from S. 3rd Street to the Big Creek Park Entrance. The project will
eliminate geometric deficiencies and reduce safety concerns on NW Madrid Drive.
The project will also provide improved access and improved traffic carrying capacity
to accommodate future traffic volumes. Minor arterial street lane continuity would
be provided and complement the street network within Polk City and unincorporated
Polk County.
The existing roadway was constructed in 1920 and has had no major improvements
other that asphalt overlays. The travel portion is 20 feet in width and does not
provide an adequate level of service.
The proposed improvements provide for reconstruction of the existing 2 lane open
ditch section. The proposed construction will require some limited areas of
additional right-of-way within which to construct a 3 lane curb and gutter section.
This improvement extends between 3rd Street and W Jester Park Road.

Between W. Jester Park Road and the Big Creek Park Entrance, the proposed improvements
consist of shoulder paving and a hot mix asphalt (HMA) overlay. Project will also
include repair and deck overlay of the Big Creek Diversion Channel Bridge. Total cost
of this project is estimated at $2,300,000.
