The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has received a $7,500.00 grant from Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino through its 2011 Community Betterment Grant Program.
“The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is fortunate to have been chosen as one of the recipients of this grant from Prairie Meadows,” commented Sheriff Bill McCarthy. He added, “We appreciate that Prairie Meadows recognizes a need for grants of this nature.” These grant funds will help to purchase tools to improve the safety of our children in Polk County, such as identification kits and bicycle helmets which will be distributed during upcoming events. Items purchased through the grant will be identified each time they are utilized.
Members of the Prairie Meadows Grants Advisory Committee, comprised of community, business and education leaders from the greater Des Moines area, review all grant requests and recommend funding levels. Recommendations are then presented to the Prairie Meadows Board of Directors for review and approval.
Members of the Prairie Meadows Grants Advisory Committee include: Dr. Andrea McGuire, Dan Riley, Dr. Mary Chapman, Bill Eisenlauer, Dr. Jerry Deegan, Linda Grandquist, Chaunci Hall, Mary Lynne Jones, Mike Matthews, Dolph Pulliam, Loretta Sieman, Brad Skinner, John Smith, Don Timmins, Martha Willits, and Karrie Weinhardt.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office would like to express its gratitude to Prairie Meadows and its representatives for giving back to local communities through charitable donations and grants.
