The client became suspicious and contacted law enforcement.
Research and references can be helpful any time a person is hiring an individual or business. Whether it is for a home improvement project, vehicle repair, yard work, or other labor, a clear agreement is recommended. In order to reduce the chances of becoming a victim, one should perform due diligence when searching for a laborer.
Beware of solicitors offering to perform work without the client initiating a request. Clients should keep good records and make sure their expectations are met. If something seems suspicious, concerns should be addressed with the laborer. If the situation seems to be contain a criminal element, such as theft or fraud, contact local law enforcement.
Please note that a criminal charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is not guilty until and unless determined by a court of law.
