FATAL SHOOTING IN GRIMES
On Thursday May 8th, 2014 at approximately 3:25 a.m., the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a call that a person had been shot at 409 SE Jacob Street in Grimes, Iowa.
Polk County deputies arrived on scene along with Grimes Fire and Rescue where they found an adult male who had been shot and fatally wounded inside the home. Polk County Sheriff’s detectives along with the Department of Criminal Investigations responded to the scene and are continuing this investigation at this time.
This appears to be an isolated incident and does not appear to a random act. We do not believe that the public is in any danger at this time.
Witnesses were transported from the scene to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office for interviews.
There are no known suspects at this time.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification to the family.
Further information will be released when it becomes available.

The victim has been identified as 30 year old – Justin Clay Michael of Grimes.
With the cooperation of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Criminal Investigations, our investigation led us to the arrest of 26 year old David Joseph Moffitt of Pleasant Hill. Moffitt was charged with one count of First Degree Murder and is being held at the Polk County Jail at this time.
The Michael family does not wish to speak to the media, please respect their privacy in this difficult time.
