NEW EQUIPMENT FOR POLK COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Friday, June 01, 2012
Thanks to a program through Struthers Brothers and Kawasaki, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office has acquired the use of a Mule, a 4-wheel drive off-road utility vehicle, through October of this year. It will be utilized on bicycle trails and other areas as needed. Deputies will be able to address the needs of people on trails who may not otherwise be able to contact law enforcement for assistance.
Officials used the Mule for the first time Memorial Day Weekend on Polk County trails. A photo of the Mule is shown below. Local businesses that made this endeavor possible through donations include Struthers Brothers, Sportsman’s Warehouse, Thomas Bus Sales, Acme Signs, Shopper’s Supply, and Rasmussen Bike Shop.
Media is invited to join us at Sycamore Access on the north side of NE 66th Avenue on Wednesday, May 30, at 10:00 a.m. for a preview of the Mule. Those who plan to attend should coordinate with Sgt. Rooker by 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29.
Sheriff’s Deputies will demonstrate its capabilities and answer questions that anyone may have. Through the use of the Mule, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is looking forward to providing law enforcement services to areas which were previously difficult to access.
