SEMI COLLIDES WITH SCHOOL BUS; 2 TAKEN TO LOCAL HOSPITAL
Friday, April 13, 2012
Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an accident in the 2000 block of NE Broadway at approximately 3:10 p.m. today involving a Saydel School Bus, a semi-truck and trailer, and a pick-up truck.
All vehicles involved were eastbound on NE Broadway when the school bus stopped at the railroad tracks, as school busses are required to do by law. According to the bus driver, as soon as the school bus was stopped, the semi hit the bus from behind, pushing it completely beyond the railroad tracks. This caused the Ford Pick-up, which was following the semi, to crash into the back of the semi.
The school bus was carrying 3 people; an associate teacher and a 16-year old female student who were on board were transported to a local hospital for what appeared to be minor injuries. The bus driver, semi-truck driver, and 3 men in the pick-up all declined medical attention.
In addition to the Polk County Deputies, Saylor Rescue, Delaware Fire Department, Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement Officers, G & S Services, and Hanifen’s Towing all responded to provide assistance with the incident. The portion of NE Broadway from NE Delaware to EFCO was closed until about 4:20 p.m.
