UPDATE FATAL ACCIDENT 6800 BLOCK NE 14TH ST - JUNE 7, 2013

UPDATE JUNE 7, 2013: The man who was pronounced deceased at the accident scene is Don Mike Cameron. According to physical evidence at the scene, it appears that the southbound Ford Ranger, driven by Cameron, crossed the center line and entered the northbound lane, making contact with the Dodge Dakota. The technical accident investigation, which is completed after each fatal accident, is in progress.

FATAL ACCIDENT THIS MORNING
A two-vehicle accident was reported to Polk County Communications Center at approximately 12:40 a.m. this morning. It occurred in the 6800 block of NE 14th Street where a southbound Ford Ranger collided with a northbound Dodge Dakota. Andrey Kritskiy, age 21 of Ankeny who was driving the Dodge, was transported to a local hospital by ground ambulance. The driver of the Ford, a 60 year old male from Ottumwa who had been staying in Berwick, was pronounced deceased at the scene; his name is being withheld until family can be notified.
The area of NE 14th Street between NE 66th and NE 70th Avenues was closed for about two hours, until the vehicles and debris could be removed. Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies and Ankeny Police Officers initially blocked traffic at those intersections until the Department of Transportation arrived with barricades. Fraser Ambulance responded to the scene as well as Saylor Fire Rescue. G & S Services towed both vehicles. Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office will work together and continue to investigate the accident in an effort to determine its cause.
Deputies indicated that heavy rain was falling at the time of the accident.
