Angela Connolly was first elected as a Polk County Supervisor in 1998. She has served as Chairperson of the Board in 2000, 2003, 2006, 2009, and 2012. Prior to joining the Board of Supervisors, Connolly spent 19 years working at the Polk County Planning and Zoning department and was an active member of AFSCME Local 1868.
She has been active in many civic and community activities, including the Metropolitan Advisory Council and Neighborhood Organizations. Connolly currently serves as the Chair of the The Tomorrow Plan and Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. Also she is currently serving as a Tri-Chair for Capital Crossroads: A Vision for Greater Des Moines and Central Iowa.
In addition, she serves on the board of the Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, Rebuilding Together, Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority – DART, Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau, Polk County Health Services, Greater Des Moines Partnership, NAMI Walks Advisory Council, Riverfront Development Authority, Polk County Housing Trust Fund, Transit 2030, Homeless Coordinating Council, and has served as past President of the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC).
In 2003, Connolly was named the County Leader of the Year by the American City & County magazine.
