Five.

Who is the supervisor for the First District?
Robert Brownell represents the First District which includes Alleman, Clive, Elkhart, Grimes, Johnston, Polk City, Sheldahl and Urbandale.

Who is the supervisor for the Second District?
Angela Connolly represents the Second District which includes northwest Des Moines and West Des Moines.

Who is the supervisor for the Third District?
Steve Van Oort represents the Third District which includes Altoona, Ankeny, Mitchellville and Pleasant Hill.

Who is the supervisor for the Fourth District?
Tom Hockensmith represents the Fourth District which includes northeast Des Moines, Runnells and parts of southeast Des Moines.

Who is the supervisor for the Fifth District?
John F. Mauro represents the Fifth District which includes Des Moines and south Des Moines.

How long is a board member’s term?
Polk County Supervisors are elected every four years with staggered terms.

How does someone get elected to the Board of Supervisors?
Nomination petitions are filed with the Polk County Auditor. See the Polk County Auditor/Election web page for addition information at http://auditor.co.polk.ia.us/.

When does the Board of Supervisors meet?
The Board of Supervisors meets each Tuesday in Room 120 of the Polk County Administration Building at 9:30 a.m. to take official action. The Board also meets on Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. to discuss items that will be forthcoming on their Tuesday agenda.
