Des Moines, Iowa, May 15, 2012 — Fifth District Polk County Iowa Supervisor Angela Connolly received the first ever “Capital Crossroads Award” recognizing vision and regionalism in Washington, D.C. on Friday, May 11th.
Supervisor Connolly was in Washington, D.C. attending the 33rd Annual Greater Des Moines Partnership’s trip held each year in an effort to provide business, civic, and community leaders from across the region a unique opportunity to talk with members of Congress and the Administration about a wide range of issues important to Central Iowa.
“This award recipient is sharp as a DART”, said Gene Meyer, President of the Greater Des Moines Partnership and coordinator of the Capital Crossroads five year implementation plan. “If a meeting was held yesterday – this person participated, if it was held today – this person attended, and if it’s planned for TOMORROW – count on their attendance. This honoree has stood at the CROSSROADS of the Iowa Events Center, Wells Fargo Arena, the renovation of Vets and issues dealing with the courthouse. Frankly, she is everywhere. She has provided leadership to three regional vision plans simultaneously: chairing DART, The Tomorrow Plan and serving as Tri-Chair of Capital Crossroads. It’s an honor and pleasure to recognize Angela Connolly.”
"I’m surprised and honored to receive this award. It is through the participation and commitment of many individuals within the community that allows all of us to provide the vision that will form the future of our region,” stated Supervisor Angela Connolly.
Capital Crossroads originated as a result of Greater Des Moines and Central Iowa coming to an important crossroads and the need to take advantage of opportunities and address challenges through a clear vision and plan for Iowa’s capital region. The process resulted in Capital Crossroads which, in turn, will begin the development of a new five-year vision strategy for the region.
Angela Connolly currently serves as Chair of DART, Co-Chair of The Tomorrow Plan and Tri-Chair of Capital Crossroads Vision Plan. Supervisor Connolly serves the citizens of the Fifth District and is the 2012 Chair of the Board of Supervisors.
