Iowa Events Center provides another Year of Profit to Polk County

DES MOINES, Iowa – Tuesday, August 27, 2013 — The Polk County Board of Supervisors today, in its regular meeting, approved the Iowa Events Center budget for FY ‘13/’14 and received news from Global Spectrum, the company hired to manage the Iowa Events Center (IEC), that due to a very successful and profitable year, Polk County will receive $510,505 overall in profits for FY ‘12/’13. This is the second time in the history of the Iowa Events Center that a profit to Polk County of over $500,000 has been achieved.
This past fiscal year, the Iowa Events Center hosted 483 events. Concerts included Bon Jovi, Kenny Chesney, Bob Dylan, Def Leppard, Carrie Underwood, Fleetwood Mac, Alan Jackson and many more. Other successful events held at the facility included the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, AQS National Quilt Show & Expo, Iowa State Pool Players Tournament, and Iowa's Premier Wine and Food Expo. “The Iowa Events Center continues to be successful through the professional management of our partner Global Spectrum,” said Polk County Board of Supervisors Chair, Tom Hockensmith.
Global Spectrum’s Chris Connolly, General Manager of the Iowa Events Center addressed the Board and presented the check from FY ‘12/’13 in addition to the proposed budget for FY ’13/ ‘14 for the facilities. “Events we can look forward to hosting this year include the Hy-Vee Big 4 Classic, as well as many concerts, exhibitions, consumer shows and conventions. Global Spectrum also anticipates a profit for the upcoming ‘13/’14 budget year. “The IEC continues to see a dramatic increase in the total number of short term corporate events and weddings; thanks in large part to the newly renovated space at Veterans Memorial – Community Choice Credit Union Convention Center”, stated Chris Connolly, General Manager.
