Polk County awards funds to Easter Seals for Cabins for Campers Project

DES MOINES, Iowa – Tuesday, September 17, 2013 — The Polk County Board of Supervisors today, in its regular meeting, awarded a $100,000 Community Development Grant to Easter Seals Iowa’s Camp Sunnyside for the “extreme” build event “Cabins for Campers 24/7” led by Hubbell Realty Company and Easter Seals Iowa.
“The Board of Supervisors is pleased to provide funding for this very worthwhile project that will enable Polk County area children, teens and adults with disabilities and special needs to have an enjoyable camp experience”, stated Tom Hockensmith, Chair.
Polk County’s Community Development Grants Program is funded from profits received by the county from its lease agreement with Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino.
The build kick off took place on Monday and will be completed with a ribbon cutting ceremony open to the public scheduled for September 23rd at 2 p.m. The new cabins will be located at 401 NE 66th Avenue, Des Moines.
