Property Tax Payment Deadline
MARY MALONEY, POLK COUNTY TREASURER—The deadline for payment
of the second installment of the 2008/2009 property tax is Wednesday, March 31,
2010. Polk County Treasurer Mary Maloney reminds taxpayers, “we are expecting twenty
thousand customers to walk into our office this month; therefore, you are encouraged
to use our online web payment system at www.IowaTaxAndTags.gov.
Full or partial payments can be made with a credit card or eCheck. Try our eCheck
option. It’s less than the cost of a postage stamp and certainly less than the cost
of gas. The web service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”
Have You Lost Your Tax Statement?
If you have lost your real estate tax statement, you may go to our
Tax Inquiry Site to print an online statement.
Wednesday, March 31 is the last day to pay in person, without late interest. Office
hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the Polk County Administrative
Office Building, 2nd & Court Avenue. Payments may be mailed but must have a March
31st postmark to be processed without late interest. To receive a March 31 postmark,
please mail by 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the main post office.
The post office does not postmark on Sunday. If mailing from an outlying post office,
please check postmark deadline requirements with the post office to obtain a timely
postmark. Interest on delinquent taxes accrues at 1.5% per month. Company affixed
metered mail dates do not supersede the post office postmark.
