Felony Case Summary (November 2019)

On November 5, 2019 Carla Rae Chiles appeared for sentencing in Polk County Case Nos. FECR330286 & FECR331909 for the crimes of Tax Stamp Violation, a Class D Felony, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Third Offense, a Class D Felony, respectively.  The Polk County District Court ordered the sentences in each case to be served consecutively, for a total term in prison not to exceed ten years.  This defendant was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney's Office Drug and Gang Bureau. 

On November 7, 2019, Kristal Ridley appeared and entered a plea of guilty to the charge of Forgery in FECR329281 wherein she admitted she negotiated a check she knew to be forged with the intent to commit a fraud.  She also admitted she assisted a person who was accused of committing a crime of Attempted Murder by helping conceal him or property associated with the crime which constituted the charge of Accessory After the Fact in FECR330127.  She was released pending sentence on the condition she comply with the terms and conditions of her probation in an unrelated matter. She will be sentenced December 30.

On November 7, 2019, Jace Chalup appeared in FECR327879 and entered a plea of guilty to the charge of Carrying Weapons on School Grounds.  He admitted he did carry a loaded firearm on the grounds of a school.  He will be sentenced in December.

On November 7, 2019, Aretha Tot appeared in FECR329106 and admitted she committed the crime of Forgery by uttering a check she knew was forged with the intent to commit a fraud.  She was on parole when she committed the offense. She waived further time and the use of a presentence investigation report and asked the Court to sentence her immediately.  She was sentenced to prison for a term not to exceed five (5) years, consecutive to her parole. The State dismissed the remaining counts of the case conditioned on her agreement to make full restitution for any amounts owed to the victim.

On November 7, 2019, Melonie Mahfouz appeared in FECR309541 on the charge of Forgery.  She admitted he negotiated a check she knew to be forged with the intent to defraud.  She will be sentenced December 23.

On November 14, 2019, Robert William Kuhn was sentenced to 30 years prison on 3 counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor and 3 counts of Invasion of Privacy in FECR316620.  He was ordered to lifetime supervision by the Department of Corrections and the requirement to register with the Sex Offender Registry. The sentence follows an October jury trial.  

On November 20, 2019 Nathaniel Martell Acri Johnson appeared for a probation hearing in Case No. FECR319570 and a sentencing hearing in Case No. FECR329419 for the crimes of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, to wit:  Marijuana, a Class D Felony;  Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver, to wit:  Xanax, a Class D Felony; Tax Stamp Violation, a Class D Felony, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons, a Class D Felony; Theft in the Third Degree, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; and Possession of a Controlled Substance, Second Offense, to wit:  Methamphetamine, an Aggravated Misdemeanor.  The Polk County District Court revoked the defendant's probation and ordered a total sentence in prison not to exceed nineteen years.  This defendant was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney's Office Drug and Gang Bureau.

On November 27, 2019 Vernon Thomas Nellis appeared for sentencing for the crime of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Third Offense, a Class D Felony, in Case No. FECR331912.  The Polk County District Court sentenced the defendant to prison for a term not to exceed five years.  This defendant was prosecuted by the Polk County Attorney's Office Drug and Gang Bureau.
