Absentee Voting by mail Video

Campaign Absentee Ballot Request Form:  Print and mail or return this form to our office to request to vote absentee via mail.   This form should be used by political parties and candidates as it has the receipt on it.  

Individual Absentee Ballot Request Form:  Print and mail or return this form to our office to request to vote absentee via mail.  This form should be used by the voter.

Track Your Absentee Ballot:  Use this link to the Iowa Secretary of State to track the process of your absentee ballot.

Military / Overseas Voting:  Use this link to the Federal Voting Assistance Program.  Applies to you if you are:

  • An active duty member of the Uniformed Services or Merchant Marine;
  • An eligible spouse or family member of an active duty member of the Uniformed Services or Merchant Marine; or
  • A U.S. citizen residing outside the U.S.

What are the options to request and cast an absentee ballot for the General Election?  See our FAQs or Iowa Code sections for more information. 

A voter may request and cast an absentee ballot in person at the election office. (Iowa code §53.10).  Available to all Polk County voters in office

  • October 8 through November 5
  • Monday through Friday plus Saturday October 27 and November 3
  • Hours 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

A voter may request and cast an absentee ballot at a satellite location. (Iowa code §53.11).  Available to all Polk County voters at every location

  • October 15 through October 31
  • Monday through Friday plus Saturday October 27
  • Hours 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM

A voter may request and cast an absentee ballot via mail. (Iowa code §53.8)  Print, complete, sign and mail the form to the left if you are using the absentee via mail option.  Available to all Polk County voters via mail

  • July 9, 2018 – First day to request a mailed absentee ballot
  • October 8, 2018 – First day absentee ballot may be mailed
  • October 27, 2018 - Deadline to request an absentee ballot via mail
  • November 5, 2018 – Absentee ballots must be post marked by this date and received by Tuesday November 13 to be considered on time to be counted.
