Des Moines, IA – In the first official meeting of the year, the Polk County Board of Supervisors took action to elect Matt McCoy, 1st District Supervisor, as it’s Chair and Jill Altringer, 2nd District Supervisor, as it’s Vice Chair.
Newly elected 2nd District Supervisor Jill Altringer and 3rd District Supervisor Mark Holm took their oaths of office as well as newly re-elected County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald and County Sheriff Kevin Schneider.
The two new board members represent a historic change in the composition of the board. This fresh perspective will create new opportunities to address challenges of growing communities and caring for vulnerable residents in Polk County. The board chair is committed to implementing good government policies.
“Taxpayers deserve to have a county government that is accessible, accountable, and conducts business in a transparent fashion,” says Chair McCoy. “These are the values that will guide us in the next generation of Polk County Leadership.”
“I’m honored to serve as Vice Chair of the Polk County Board of Supervisors,” says Vice Chair Altringer. “During the campaign, I heard concerns about government waste and people of all ages feeling like they’re being taxed out of their homes. I look forward to implementing healthy reforms that find efficiencies and solutions to challenging problems facing county government.”
The Polk County Board of Supervisors continue the bipartisanship by electing a Democrat and Republican into leadership roles. “By its very nature, our work as a board is non-partisan. I look forward to working with all colleagues on the board,” says Chair McCoy.
