Senior Center Activities & Wellness
County Wide Activities
Throughout the year we offer different activities, but there are a few things that are regular. These include:
- Tournaments: Pool, Cribbage, and assorted cards on a monthly basis
- Annual Senior Fest & Health Fair at the state fairgrounds in the Spring
- Annual Volunteer Recognition Party
- Annual Fishing Derby
Senior Center Wellness Programs
Currently, the wellness programs offered at the senior centers include:
Fitness Classes- This program includes strength, cardio and flexibility exercises for older adults.
Tai Chi for Arthritis- A great exercise to help reduce stress and anxiety, improve balance and stability along with several other health benefits. This is a free one-hour class that will be held for 7 weeks. Contact Ranae at 265-8461 if you are interested.
Polk County Senior Fest & Health Fair- May
Polk County Senior Fest & Health Fair is held annually in May. The event is held in the Varied Industries Building, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. This wonderful event is designed for those 60 years and older. The older adults who attend, will enjoy a day full of health screenings, vendor booths, music, a nutritious noon meal and other fun activities.
Senior Fishing Derby- June
The Senior Services of Polk County Recreation Committee & Polk County Conservation Board hosts an annual Senior Fishing Derby at Easter Lake. Don’t miss this fun, well-attended event.
Volunteer Recognition Dinner- September
This invitation only event is held annualy at Hy-Vee Hall and recognizes individuals who serve in a volunteer capacity for Polk County.
