Volunteer Restoration Days: Prairie

Iowa’s tallgrass prairie is amongst one of the most endangered ecosystems on Earth. Join PCC staff and fellow volunteers as we contribute efforts towards the protection and expansion of this important habitat in Polk County by collecting native seed ready to harvest. Seed harvest is an effective way to diversify local plant genetics and expand the prairie community across the Polk County Conservation parks system. Volunteers will get the opportunity to sharpen their plant identification skills, learn about the significance of the tallgrass prairie habitat, and enjoy a day lending a helping hand in restored grassland.

These events begin at 10 AM and end at 3 PM with a break from 12 - 1PM. Come for the morning, afternoon, or both – participants are encouraged to come and go per their desired hours.
