Snowshoe Trails & Treks

This winter when the snow flies and those fluffy flakes are calling, take the opportunity to try something new: snowshoeing. This low-impact aerobic exercise allows you to tackle freshly fallen snow with the exuberance of a child while honoring your personal limitations. You can frolic in the powder at your own pace for as long or short a trek as you choose.
Snowshoes provide a wide base which more evenly distributes your weight across the snowy surface of the ground, preventing your foot from sinking straight down. In this way, it can make walking in snow a bit easier. On the other hand, snowshoes force you to walk with a wider gate, firing up muscles you may not typically use to provide a solid workout.
Before you invest in your own pair of snowshoes, try renting a pair to test it out. It’s just $10 for a half-day rental at Jester Park Outdoor Recreation and Wellness Center in Granger, Iowa. Happy (snowshoe) trails!
