Closures and Reroutes

Monday, July 31, 2017

Below are current park and trail closures and reroutes:

Great Western Trail Re-route Begins on July 28

Development work near the Great Western Trail will result a portion of the trail being relocated between Hwy 5 and Maffitt Lake Road.

Polk County Conservation has worked with the other parties to move the trail right-of-way to an alternate route, preserving a continuous corridor while avoiding at grade road crossings and conflicts with multiple commercial trail crossings.

The trail is not expected to be closed during this construction period that will last through mid-fall. Please be cautious in this area.

Canoe & Kayaks at Chichaqua Winterized Due to Low Water

Due to low water levels in the Chichaqua Bottoms Greenbelt oxbows, canoes and kayaks have been winterized and put into storage.

Rentals will resume spring of 2018, conditions allowing.

Yellow Banks Campground 1 & 2 in September

Campground 1 & 2 at Yellow Banks Park will be closed intermittently during the month of September while paving occurs on the campground roads.

One campground will remain open at all times. However, campsites will be limited.

We apologize for this inconvenience, but we are excited to bring you this enhanced camping improvement. To check on campsite availability prior to your visit, contact Charlie Finch at 515-250-1031.
