Important Notice regarding COVID-19

Due to the growing concern over the COVID-19 virus, all business with the Polk County Assessor’s office will be conducted via telephone, internet, fax, or mail only. At this time our office will be closed to the public.

Here you will find the application for Homestead CreditMilitary ExemptionDisabled Veteran Homestead Tax Credit. You may return the completed form via email: credits@assess.co.polk.ia.us, and Business Property Tax Credit You may return the completed form via email: bptc@assess.co.polk.ia.us. You can email, fax or send via US mail the completed form back to us. One of our team members will be in contact with you by phone or email if we need more information.

Assessment roll notices will be mailed March 31 to those property owners where there has been a valuation change since 2019. Here you will find information regarding Informal Review which is April 2 – April 25. Formal protests can be filed from April 2 – April 30. Petition to the Board of Review. You may return the completed protest form via email: protest@assess.co.polk.ia.us; fax: 515-286-3386; or US mail: 111 Court Ave, Rm 195, Des Moines, Iowa 50309.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to health and safety concerns for the public we serve, the board of review members and the Polk County Assessor’s Office staff, oral hearings will not be held this year. Our staff will contact you to discuss the property and your reason for appeal, prior to the Board of Review’s deliberation. Please provide the best way to contact you during regular business hours, to assist our communication.
