NOTICE TO VOTERS: All voters residing in the City of Johnston may vote at one of the polling places listed within this notice.  The polling places will be open on Election Day, Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 7:00 AM until 8:00 PM.

ABSENTEE BALLOT REQUEST FORM                  

Pre-registered voters are required to provide an approved form of identification at the polling place before receiving and casting a regular ballot. Voters who are not pre-registered – such as voters registering to vote on Election Day – and voters changing precincts must also provide proof of residence. A voter who is unable to provide an approved form of identification (or prove residence if required) 1) may have the voter’s identity/residence attested to by another registered voter in the precinct, 2) prove identity and residence using Election Day Registration documents, or 3) cast a provisional ballot and provide proof of identity/residence at the county auditor’s office by Noon, March 4th. Election Day Registrant attesters must provide an approved form of identification. A City Primary Election will be held on May 25, 2021 since 4 candidates have filed for the Johnston City Council At Large Vacancy.  The Election for the top 2 candidates will be held on June 22, 2021.  The order of the candidates was determined by a drawing of names. Other pertinent election information is listed below:

 

1st day to vote in person at the Election Office – Wednesday, May 5, 2021

 

Last day to vote in person at the Election Office – Monday, May 24, 2021

 

Last day to request an absentee ballot by mail – Monday, May 10, 2021

 

Last day absentee ballots can be received in our office – Tuesday May 25, 2021 by 8:00 PM

 

City Primary Election Day – Tuesday, May 25, 2021 – Polls open from 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM.

 

 

May 10, 2021 – City Primary Election Voter Pre-Registration Deadline The deadline to pre-register to vote for the regular city election is 5 p.m. for registrations in person (including registration at driver’s license stations or agencies) or by mail. The deadline for online registrations is 11:59 p.m.  §48A.9(1)

 

May 10, 2021 – Exceptions: Mailed voter registration forms postmarked on or before the worry free postmark date, are considered on time even if received after 5 p.m. today. §48A.9(3)

 

May 10, 2021 – After today, a person may register to vote at the auditor’s office, health care facility, or a satellite absentee voting station and vote an absentee ballot. The process is the same as for registering to vote on election day. §48A.7A(3)

 

May 10, 2021 – Primary City Election Worry-Free Postmark Date Mailed voter registration forms which are postmarked on or before today are considered on time to be pre-registered for the primary city election even if they are received after the voter pre-registration deadline. §48A.9(3)

 

May 10, 2021 – Deadline to request an absentee to be mailed for City Primary Election Deadline is 5 p.m. §53.2

 

May 10, 2021 – Voters admitted to hospitals or nursing homes after 5 p.m. today may call to request delivery of an absentee ballot for the City Primary Election. Deadline for a telephone request is 4 p.m. on Election Day. §53.22(3), 53.22(6)
