Renewals for Boats Begin on January 1st, 2025
Boat renewal postcards will be sent out the beginning of January. You can then renew your vessel online, by mail or in the office. All Iowa registrations expire April 30th, 2025. A $5.00 penalty is added to the renewal cost for an expired Iowa registration.

Need to apply for a Passport? Then you need to make an appointment with our office. Call 515-286-3160 and we can help you out. We do not accept walk-ins. Appointments are also available thru your local Post Office if we don't have any appointments available.

Polk County Administration Building Visitor Entrance Procedures
Polk County has implemented new security measures at the Polk County Administration Building (111 Court Ave.). Those with business in the administration building will now be asked to enter only on the south-west side of the building facing Court Ave. and 2nd Ave in Des Moines.

The Recorder's Office is open to the public from 8:00am - 4:30pm. Passports are by appointment only. Please call 515-286-3160 with any questions or to set up an appointment.
