Mandatory Curfew Order

The Board of Supervisors lifted the curfew effective June 4, 2020.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office would like to advise the citizens of Polk County that a mandatory curfew order has been put in place starting May 31, 2020. The hours of curfew are from 9:00 PM until 5:00 AM on June 1, 2020 and is at the direction from the Polk County Board of Supervisors. This is in response to the violent outbreaks of civil unrest that have taken place on May 29 and May 30. THE CURFEW ORDER WILL REMAIN IN EFFECT UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE AND THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS WILL REVIEW THE NEED FOR THE CONTINUATION OF THE CURFEW ORDER ON A DAILY BASIS.

This does not impact:
- Those who are traveling to or from work during those hours.
- Those who require medical assistance or have a bonafide family emergency.
- Those participating in official religious observance.

We ask that ALL please adhere to the order. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office will warn those that are out after 9:00 PM of the mandatory order, but expect that our orders and requests to be immediately carried out. We do not want to arrest or take any law enforcement action towards anyone, but will if forced to do so.

Polk County has the authority to issue a curfew by Proclamation pursuant to Iowa Code 331.301(1).
