Mary L. Wells Appointed County Treasurer
The Polk County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to appoint Mary Wells as county treasurer, filling a vacancy left by Mary Maloney, who was serving her seventh term when she died unexpectedly in January.
Wells previously served as a platoon leader with the Iowa National Guard, in leadership roles at Wells Fargo, Nationwide and DXC Technology, and was recognized by the NAACP Youth Council and Iowa Department of Human Rights for her philanthropic work, according to a news release. She is president of the nonprofit Investing In My Future, Inc., founded in 2010 to help Black youth navigate post-secondary education and career opportunities, according to its website.
In her newest role, she will oversee a team of 65 employees, the release said.
