Taxes Due September 30th: Polk County Treasurer Issues Property Tax Statements Ahead of Deadline

Polk County Property Taxes Due September 30, 2021

September 14, 2021

(Des Moines, IA)- Polk County Treasurer Mary L. Wells announced today the issuance of 2021 tax bills for Polk County residents ahead of the upcoming September property tax deadline.

182,500 tax statements representing 1.120 billion dollars were issued to property owners in late August. The first installment deadline for property tax due in 2021-2022 is September 30th.

Many of the statements mailed require no further action from taxpayers that have their tax balances paid by their mortgage companies. However, taxpayers unsure of who is responsible for remitting payment should contact their mortgage company directly.

Property owners may notice a difference in their tax statements this year. “The Treasurer’s office has recently changed property systems and no longer uses a district and parcel number to identify your property,” said Wells. “We now use the geoparcel number that has always been associated with your parcel to identify it for payment.”

Those using the Property Tax Database will still be able to locate parcel details by inputting either their legacy parcel number or the geoparcel number listed on their 2021 tax statements.

Taxpayers are encouraged to submit their payments online at iowataxandtags.org. Payment can also be made via dropbox or mail and must be postmarked by Thursday, September 30th, to avoid any late interest penalties.
