Polk County To Offer Additional Drive-Through COVID-19 Testing

Beginning Monday January 17, 2022, Polk County in partnership with WellHealth Works, will begin offering drive-through COVID-19 testing clinics at the first, of what will be multiple locations in Polk County. Currently, Polk County and Polk County Health Department are in the process of mobilizing additional testing sites which will help alleviate the testing surge that is overwhelming hospitals, clinics and pharmacies. The testing sites will be open 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM every day (including weekends). Registration will take place on-site.

The first location available will open on Monday January 17, 2022 at Polk County Riverplace (2309 Euclid Ave., Des Moines/ West Parking Lot).

The site will be open 7 days a week. Hours are 8AM- 6PM each day. Those who utilize the drive-through sites are asked to bring an insurance card and a current ID. There is no cost for symptomatic or exposed individuals. Results from PCR tests are sent to individuals within 48 hours. Rapid tests are also available upon request.

Those using the sites are asked to plan accordingly and expect occasional wait times. Drive-through testing is a partnership between Polk County and Wellhealth Works and Health Tracks Rx. Residents are encouraged to visit PolkCountyIowa.gov for any updated information or announcements prior to visiting the site.

Individuals can come to the Health Department Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM and ask the front desk for a COVID-19 test kit.

Starting Wednesday, October 6, 2021, the Polk County Health Department (1907 Carpenter Ave, Des Moines 50314) will serve as a Test Iowa COVID-19 test kit pick up and drop off site.

Individuals will now have the opportunity to drop off COVID-19 test kits at the Health Department, Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM. There will be a drop box directly inside our office door where individuals can place their test kit for transportation to the State Hygienic Lab. Tests will be picked up promptly at 3:00 PM. If you are miss the deadline, your test will go out the next day.

Activate the test kit by providing your information and test kit ID. You will only receive your test result if your test kit has been activated. Click here to have access to videos about how to use the sample collection kit. Videos available in English, Spanish and French.

Individuals can also drop off their test kit at your nearest UPS drop-off location using a prepaid UPS label included with the test kit. You may also drop off your test kit at the Ankeny State Hygienic Lab (2220 S. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, IA 50023).

ADDITIONAL TESTING OPTIONS IN POLK COUNTY

Individuals with No Symptoms

Residents who are NOT experiencing symptoms but need a COVID19 test because of exposure, travel arrangements, or other type of requirements (concert venue, employment, etc.) are encourage to avoid the use of health systems.
