Internship Process

The Capstone/Internship Program at the Polk County Health Department allows you to apply your knowledge and skills that you've acquired through your coursework and to increasingly advance your public health competencies. The program provides an opportunity for you to gain experience working side-by-side with a professional public health mentor on projects of mutual interest.

If you are interested in applying for the Capstone/Internship Program with the Polk County Health Department, please complete the following:

  • Visit the Polk County Health Department website at www.polkcountyiowa.gov/health and review the entire website to determine your interest in programs and/or services and what best matches your major, skills, and experiences for the capstone/internship.
  • Send a resume with a cover letter explaining why you'd like your capstone/internship experience to be at the Polk County Health Department and the areas of interest that would be a best match to build on your academic background as well as your experiences. Resume and cover letter can be sent to the following:

          Helen Eddy, Director
          Polk County Health Department
          1907 Carpenter Avenue
          Des Moines, IA 50314
          helen.eddy@polkcountyiowa.gov

  • Upon receiving your resume and cover letter, the Director and Leadership Team will review for consideration and determine if it best aligns with a public health capstone/internship project.

We look forward to hearing from you for an opportunity to gain an invaluable experience and contribute to the health and well-being of the community in which we serve.

All internships, practicums and capstones are unpaid.
