Health Department will start Pfizer booster dose for adults 65 years and older and specific at-risk groups on Tuesday, September 28, 2021

(Des Moines, IA) – Starting Tuesday, September 28, 2021, the Polk County Health Department will provide Pfizer booster doses for adults 65 years and older and individuals of specific at-risk groups.

The following individuals and specific at-risk groups qualify for a booster dose:

  • Individuals 65 years and older and residents in long-term care settings should receive a booster shot of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their second dose.
  • Individuals aged 50–64 years with underlying medical conditions should receive a booster shot of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their second dose.
  • Individuals aged 18–49 years with underlying medical conditions may receive a booster shot of Pfizer  COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their second dose based on their individual benefits and risks.
  • Individuals aged 18-64 years who are at increased risk for COVID-19 exposure and transmission because of occupational or institutional setting may receive a booster shot of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at least 6 months after their second dose based on their individual benefits and risks.

This recommendation is for individuals who originally received the two-dose (primary) series of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine. The Pfizer booster dose is available by appointment only and starting Tuesday, September 28, 2021. To schedule your Pfizer booster dose appointment, please register at immunizepolk.com.

The Polk County Health Department has a call center specifically dedicated to providing assistance to individuals who do not have the ability to access the internet or a computer. Our call center team is able to work with individuals who do not speak English. Call center hours are Monday - Friday from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
