Health Department and Community Partners Host Health Insurance Enrollment Fair
The Polk County Health Department, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa and Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines will host a health insurance enrollment and re-enrollment fair on Saturday, December 13 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the Evelyn Davis Center (801 University Ave, Unit 3 in Des Moines).
“We know that there are still many Polk County residents without health insurance,” said Rick Kozin, director of Polk County Health Department. “This is an opportunity for them to discuss their options with trained professionals who understand their family’s health insurance concerns.”
Individuals and families must enroll in a plan by December 15, 2014, if they want their coverage to start by January 1, 2015. If individuals and families enroll in a plan after December 15, 2014, their coverage will start on the first day of the next month or the second month depending on enrollment date. Open enrollment ends February 15, 2015.
In order to help individuals understand their choices and assist them with the enrollment and re-enrollment process, the enrollment fair will provide individuals with one-on-one enrollment assistance from licensed navigators and certified application counselors. This enrollment fair will provide individuals with detailed information about each Marketplace Health Insurance Plan offered in Iowa and can help determine eligibility for Marketplace subsidies. Spanish interpreters will be available.
“Those enrolled last year through Marketplace need to start reviewing their current plan and decide if they want to renew their current plan or enroll in a different one,” Kozin said. “There are new insurance plans out there that might be a better fit for their health needs and budget.”
In order to complete the enrollment application at the fair, please bring the following information:
- Current ID
- Social Security Card
- 2013 Income Tax Returns
- If working, last pay stub
- Every client must have an email address to receive notice of coverage decisions and requests for additional information
