Health insurance enrollment and renewal fair to be held in Des Moines
(Des Moines, IA) – The period to enroll or re-enroll in Marketplace Health Insurance starts November 1, 2015. The Polk County Health Department, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa, Broadlawns Medical Center, Primary Health Care and Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines will host a health insurance enrollment fair on Monday, November 2 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working families (801 University Ave, Unit 3 in Des Moines) to help individuals and families through the health insurance process.
“Many people go without health insurance because they assume they cannot afford it,” said Rick Kozin, Polk County Health Department Director. “The health insurance enrollment and renewal fair is an event where you can find out how health insurance may be more affordable than you imagine.”
An adult family of four making $33,465 - $59,625 and not offered affordable health insurance through work may qualify for Marketplace health plans with lower monthly premiums plus savings on out-of-pocket costs, like deductibles and co-payments. An adult in a family of 4 making $59,626 - $95,400 and not offered affordable health insurance through work may qualify for Marketplace health plans with lower monthly premiums.
In order to help individuals understand their choices and assist them with the sign-up process, the health insurance fair will be staffed by professionals, which will provide individuals with one-on-one enrollment assistance. Staff will provide individuals with detailed information about each Marketplace Health Insurance Plan offered in Iowa and can help determine eligibility for Marketplace subsidies. Spanish interpreters will be available at the event.
“Having health insurance puts your mind at ease knowing you and your family are covered in case of an unexpected illness or accident,” said Kozin. “Health insurance can also help reduce the financial burden if the unexpected happens.”
In order to complete the enrollment application at the fair, please bring the following information:
- Current ID
- Social Security Card
