Last chance for January 1, 2016 health insurance coverage is December 15, 2015
(Des Moines, IA) – December 15, 2015, is the last day to enroll or change plans for new health insurance coverage to start January 1, 2016. Marketplace health insurance open enrollment will continue through January 31, 2016. The Polk County Health Department, Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa, Broadlawns Medical Center, Primary Health Care and Mercy Medical Center – Des Moines will host a health insurance enrollment fair Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Evelyn K. Davis Center for Working families (801 University Ave, Unit 3 in Des Moines) to help individuals and families through the health insurance process.
“For many individuals and families, this may be the last opportunity to sign up for health insurance before the new year,” said Rick Kozin, Polk County Health Department Director. “We would like to see as many people as possible take advantage of this great opportunity.”
An adult family of four making $33,465 - $59,625 and not offered affordable health insurance through work may qualify for Marketplace health plans with lower monthly premiums plus savings on out-of-pocket costs, like deductibles and co-payments. An adult in a family of 4 making $59,626 - $95,400 and not offered affordable health insurance through work may qualify for Marketplace health plans with lower monthly premiums.
In order to help individuals understand their choices and assist them with the sign-up process, the health insurance fair will be staffed by professionals, which will provide individuals with one-on-one enrollment assistance. Staff will provide individuals with detailed information about each Marketplace Health Insurance Plan offered in Iowa and can help determine eligibility for Marketplace subsidies. Spanish interpreters will be available at the event.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for families to get their health and medical costs covered at a price that is affordable. By doing so they will improve their physical, mental and financial health,” said Kozin.
In order to complete the enrollment application at the fair, please bring the following information:
