Unusual late season heat...stay safe!

The National Weather Service has issued a weather statement regarding the unusual late-season heat. We will see heat index values today exceeding 90º for 8 hours, and nearing the 100º mark. Saturday looks to have similar conditions with 7 or more hours of heat index values at/above 90. We should have overnight temperatures in the low-mid 70s, so that will provide some assistance.

Athletes need to stay hydrated throughout the day especially football players, cheerleaders and staff who have games today. Conditions for football kick offs will still have heat index values in the low 90s.

Anyone spending time outdoors today and Saturday need to spend at least two hours a day in air conditioning, drink lots of water, postpone outdoor activities to morning or evening and avoid spending long periods of time outdoors.
