Des Moines, IA- Effective June 1, 2021 Polk County will reopen all public buildings and lift additional COVID-19 mandates. This includes the Polk County Administration building at 111 Court Avenue which is home to the County Treasurer, Recorder and Board of Supervisors offices.
While the building will reopen to the public, many services will continue to be offered online or by appointment for the convenience of the general public. Title transfers and property tax payments by appointment only are available through our online scheduling system at https://www.polkcountyiowa.gov/county-treasurer/book-an-appointment-title-transfers-property-tax-only/. We continue to recommend using our online payment website at https://www.iowataxandtags.org/ (available 24/7) for paying property taxes and tag renewals, as well as sending payments through the mail or using our drop box (located on the south side of the building) to return plates and drop off payments. Remember, there is no waiting in line if you go online. Walk in will resume for registration and plate license plate replacements. Hours of operation at the Treasurer’s office will be from 7AM-5PM.
Polk County Treasurer Mary Wells says, “We have found the public enjoys the ability to schedule an appointment for some of our services instead of waiting in line. This will allow for us to continue to offer that convenience while also serving those without an appointment.”
Julie Haggerty, Polk County Recorder is pleased to announce that her office will be opening to the public concurrently with Administration Building beginning Tuesday, June 1st, 2021. Office hours will continue to be 8:00am – 4:30pm.
“While our office is open to the public, to avoid wait lines, we encourage citizens to still process recreational vehicle, vital record and real estate transactions by mail,” Haggerty said, “We are administering passport applications by appointment only. You can call 515-286-3160 to schedule a date and time at your convenience.”
While the administration building will reopen, those who have not been fully vaccinated are asked to mask and social distance per CDC and Polk County Public Health recommendations.
